Onsite Education Programs

SHADOW board member Klaus Richter is certified to provided accredited education to teachers for their needed hours of additional classes. This offering to teachers would expose them to site and educational opportunities for their students.

Target Groups 
(1000 to 1200 individuals per year)

Local Schools
Audubon groups
Stewardship Classes (WSU, Cooperative Extension, King Conservation District)
Youth Groups (Scouts, Home schooling, other environmental groups)
Junior Colleges

Basic Design

  • Provide handouts and pre-work for the teachers prior to onsite visit.
  • Be able to customize for teachers or groups as needed.
  • Design should decrease hours needed by the teacher or group leader.
  • Time should fit standard class time.
  • Onsite visit (4 hrs) or as needed or time allows. (20 to 25 individuals per class)
  • Post-work (immediate and long term)
  • Handouts and review of targeted information learned.
  • Available long term projects (water monitoring, relationships of rain/temp/water-levels)
  • Internet access to web cam/ online water level devices and making correlations to the information provided. 
  • Provide links from shadowinfo.org to their sites if available.
  • Amphibian studies, plants, and wildlife.

Teacher Accreditation

Provide several onsite accreditation programs for teachers by Klaus Richter. (Senior Ecologist for King County Water and Land Resource Division, Dept of Natural Resources and SHADOW Board Member)

 

On December 14, 2000, SHADOW was formed as a 501(c)(3)organization 
to preserve the unique peat bog and habitat surrounding the west and southwest sides of Shadow Lake.
